Liverpool Hope University joins It’s Liverpool in ChinaWednesday 20 May 2015
Liverpool Hope University has joined a new partnership designed to encourage investment and build Liverpool’s business links with China.
The It’s Liverpool in China Partnership includes Liverpool Hope University, University of Liverpool, Liverpool John Moores, Peel Group, China-Britain Business Council, UKTI, the Isle of Man, Liverpool and Sefton Chambers of Commerce and Liverpool City Region LEP.
The involvement of the three Liverpool universities reflects the increasing importance of attracting international students to the UK. Liverpool Hope has a vibrant international community of scholars and students, a number of whom are from China.
The group is led by Liverpool Vision, which has been working extensively with China since its attendance at the Shanghai Expo in 2010.
The group’s activities will include partner trade missions to China, building interest in the city in China’s travel trade and the securing of Chinese delegations and events to the International Festival for Business 2016. It will also work together to host an ‘Invest Liverpool’ event in Shanghai later this year.
Liverpool Hope Business School Fellow and Liverpool Vision Chief Executive Max Steinberg will chair the group. He said: "There are a lot of organisations here who have a clear focus on China. You only need look at the number of Chinese students who choose Liverpool, the high volume of consumer tourists and the work done by companies such as Peel. However until now, there was nothing which channelled these efforts across education, property and tourism into one cohesive offer to be presented to China and state the city’s case. "We have a defined set of actions and objectives, which are all achievable in the short-term but will hopefully reap long-term rewards for Liverpool.”
