Official launch of THIS RadioTuesday 11 November 2014
Students past and present came together for the launch of THIS Radio, Liverpool Hope’s new look radio station.
Students from across the university attended Our Place for the launch, which included acoustic and DJ sets. A raffle, which included prizes such as Jess Glynne t-shirt, also raised money for Claire House Children’s Hospice.
Headliners The Black Ties performed a selection of songs from The Beatles, Elvis Presley, The Darkness and Daft Punk.
The event was also attended by former presenters and alumni now working in the radio industry, as well as current members of THIS Radio.
Station manager Ian Broadhurst said, “It was a great occasion to start Liverpool Hope’s new radio station. There was great interest from new students, and I am encouraged by their eagerness to be involved.”
Niall Grindrod is studying Education and ICT and is producer for the Crank It Up To 11 show, which airs on THIS Radio every Friday between 6-8pm. He said: “I am looking forward to working on THIS Radio - the launch event was really enjoyable and a fitting way to mark the start of the station.”
Daniel Graham, who is studying Early Childhood and Education and who co-presents Crank It Up To 11 said: “I am thoroughly enjoying my time with the station and the opportunities that THIS Radio has created made for me. I’m looking forward to seeing where THIS Radio goes in the future. I really enjoyed the live band at the launch evening - The Black Ties performance made it a memorable experience.”
