Prestigious award for Music ProfessorWednesday 7 December 2016
An opera led by Liverpool Hope’s Professor of Musicology Tassilo Erhardt has received a prestigious award.
Johann Christoph Pepusch's (1667-1752) opera Venus and Adonis holds a significant place in music history as a major effort to 'reconcile Musick to the English Tongue'.
A first recording of the work, led by Professor Tassilo Erhardt, has been awarded the German Record Critic's Award (Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik), which was established in 1980 to 'set the most rigorous standards for supreme achievement and quality' in music recording.
This is the second CD released by Professor Erhardt with The Harmonious Society of Tickle-Fiddle Gentlemen, following the critically acclaimed recording of Pepusch's concertos (also released on the Belgian label Ramee).
