Professor Neil Ferguson talks peace through employment

The idea that employment reduces conflict risk is explored by Professor Neil Ferguson, Department of Psychology, in a piece for Vision of Humanity. 

Drawn from a report published by the International Security and Development Center, Professor Ferguson’s ‘Do jobs really aid peace?’ explores why fragile states prioritise employment in the pursuit of peace.

Professor Ferguson wrote: “The logic follows that more employment reduces conflict risk, which in turn fosters the economic environment for investment and more jobs, which further increases stability that leads to more jobs and so on. However, the potential to realise this virtuous cycle is a lot more complicated…”
