Psychology graduate launches bid for Start Up funding

Marissa Pendlebury 2015 Wednesday 21 September 2016

MSc Psychology Graduate Marissa Pendlebury is in the running for a National Association of College and University Entrepreneurship (NACUE) award.

The NACUE Varsity Pitch is the UK’s biggest business competition for students and graduates, with the winner receiving £10,000 for their business Start Up.

Marissa’s business Nourishing Routes offers coaching and group workshops designed to help people develop a positive relationship with food, mind and body. It’s influenced by her MSc research into the psychology of eating behaviours, stress and nutritional status, which she undertook at Hope.

In a 60-second video pitch, Marissa has outlined why her business should be nominated for the final in the Tata Social Impact category, which is for social enterprises and ethically conscious businesses.

Marissa said: “It’s about passionately using my expertise in positive Psychology and experiences of overcoming anorexia to empower people to love food and love their bodies without using faddy diets and fitness regimes.”

The public can vote for their favourite pitch and the six winners from each of the categories will have the opportunity to pitch their ideas live at the semi-final.

She added: “Individuals who have the most number of votes get fast racked through to the next stage of the competition, so it would mean the world if you could add a vote and spread on the message.”
