School of Teacher Education donates £500 to local charityWednesday 18 May 2016
A £500 cheque was presented to Wirral Mind by the School of Teacher Education - winners of the National Student Survey (NSS) departmental charity competition.
The department had the highest student response rate in the survey and decided to donate their winnings to the mental health charity.
Nicola Riley, Operations Manager for Wirral Mind, collected the funds at a special end-of-year event for the Y4 trainee teachers.
As a former Hope student herself, Nicola described how great it is to see the University supporting a local charity that helps people in the Wirral area.
She said: “I studied Psychology here around 14 years ago and was thrilled to be have the opportunity to return to the University and see how much it’s changed.
“The donation will help to fund our Fountain Project, which is a resource centre that provides a daily drop-in service for those in distress or who have no support network. The charity also organises respite holidays and the money will help to subsidise these.”
