Sound City Profile: Tony DixonTuesday 19 May 2015
Fine Art student Tony will also be showing his talent for music when he appears at this year’s Sound City.
Tony, who sings and plays the guitar and piano, says that his main style is alternative folk, with some blues and soul influence. It was his experience as an exhibiting artist at the Hilton Hotel during last year’s Sound City festival that spurred him on to take part as a musician in 2015.
Tony said: “I was really taken aback by the amount of quality bands and artists I saw. I remember discussing with fellow artists how much I’d like to perform the following year, but at the time it only felt like a pipe dream. Now that I’ve actually been gifted this opportunity, I feel very blessed.”
Tony sees a clear line running through both his music and his artwork: “I try to keep the rawness of live performance in my music, shying away from a clean cut over produced sound. This is replicate in my artwork, for example, displaying raw steel bent and manipulated by hand.
“My artwork and my music are both driven from my love of process over the final product. I like to create a rich narrative for my audience in both the painting and sculptures I make, as well as through my lyrics and chord progression.”
Catch Tony at Sound City's Acoustic boat party on Friday 22nd May, 16:45 - 17:45 and the Heineken Boat Party Saturday 23rd May 12:15-12:45.
