Spending the time to get to grips with financeTuesday 14 October 2014
Students at Liverpool Hope University are being invited to get to grips with their finances at a new budgeting workshop.
The one hour workshop will explain how to calculate income from all sources across the 52-week period and how to use budgeting worksheets to spread income equally across the year.
Students will be able to take these tools away and use an expenditure calculator to make sure all items of expenditure are covered throughout the year.
The session will be run by a trained Student/Welfare Benefit Advisor and is open to both undergraduate and postgraduate students. First year students are particularly encouraged to come along.
Jeanette Jones, Student/Welfare Benefit Adviser said: “This course is not about giving students the theory. Rather, it is about looking at the actual dates in the year when they will receive their student loans, scholarships or bursaries and helping them to plan for the summer when income drops.
"Student Finance is paid in three instalments between September and April, so in order to have money left to cover the summer it is essential to budget. Having strategies in place to spread income throughout the year helps reduce worry so that students can really focus on their studies.”
The Personal Budgeting Workshop takes place on Wednesday 29th October 2014 at 2pm in FML 212 and there is no need to book.
