Students welcome local community for Christmas tea partyThursday 17 December 2015
Liverpool Hope students and staff welcomed older people from the local area to a Christmas tea party.
Members of staff transported the guests to the Hope Park campus, where they were met by students for a Contact the Elderly Christmas afternoon tea and gift giving.
The regular events are part of the nationwide Contact the Elderly initiative, which is dedicated to tackling loneliness and social isolation among older people.
The tea parties have been taking place regularly at Liverpool Hope since summer 2013, and in July this year the university presented an honorary degree to Trevor Lyttleton, the lawyer who founded the charity.
Pranay Raj Shakya, SU Vice President (Education) said: “It has been a great volunteering platform for students to help and socialize with the elderly who sometimes feel very isolated. The guests also received Christmas gifts which they appreciated. Now we want to encourage more students to take part.”
