Programme Overview
The International MBA will equip you with the skills to adapt to a fast-changing global business environment. Building on the successful MBA programme offered at Hope, this new programme focuses more specifically on the international business context. The programme is delivered by Liverpool Hope’s Business School, which was awarded a maximum score of 24 out of 24 in the last Quality Assurance Agency national subject review of Management provision in higher education.
The programme deals with practical business situations which relate to your experience as a manager. It is particularly relevant for students from the UK or from overseas who wish to obtain a professional qualification that takes into account cultural differences in an increasingly global market. You will develop an enquiring approach to problems and learn how business management theories can be applied to find practical solutions.
Study details / Course information **
The programme combines academic and practical courses (modules), consisting of 8 taught modules and a dissertation (final research project), adding up to 180 credits. You will be assessed for each module. Assessment methods may include practical coursework, essays, reflective reports, presentations, examinations, a research proposal and a dissertation.
You will have the opportunity to study in a lively atmosphere, alongside a diverse group of students and a team of active research staff who are committed to professional development. Taught modules provide a balance between the fundamentals of business theory and the global dimension. The programme also addresses ethical business issues such as international corporate responsibility.
Core modules
Management Strategy (15 credits): You will study the latest theories and best practice of organisational direction, mission and values, and corporate strategy.
Organisational Behaviour and Leadership (15 credits): You will study the latest theories on teams and leadership, power, culture politics and group decision making.
Managerial Finance (15 credits): You will gain an insight into interpreting and analysing business, accounting and finance systems and procedures.
Human Resource Management (15 credits): You will develop knowledge and understanding of how to develop HRM strategies specifically recruitment & selection, reward management, performance management and culture management.
International modules
Globalisation (30 credits): In this module you will look at the fundamental shift occurring in the world economy, globalisation, its causes and implications. You will also consider how countries differ in their cultures, political and economic systems, how this affects business strategy, missions, values and operations.
International Corporate Responsibility (30 credits): This module will encourage you to think critically about the range of dilemmas, problems and issues that we address within the field known as International Corporate Responsibility including Business Ethics, Social Responsibility and Corporate Governance.
Project / Dissertation Modules
Research Methods (15 credits): This module comprises a
compulsory taught element which prepares you for your research. You
will cover the formulation of research questions, designing the
research process and the process of investigation, while providing a
critical reflection of your strengths and weaknesses, knowledge and
understanding of research design and methods for small scale research.
Project / Dissertation - 45 credits
The dissertation component allows you to explore in depth a particular aspect that interests you or an issue that concerns you: it may be within your own business setting, or within any aspect of business or global management. Before starting work on the dissertation itself you will spend time developing a fully outlined proposal for it. Research is subject to commercial confidentiality if required.
Research Environment
Hope Business School is renowned for the quality of its teaching and research, and its supportive learning environment. Hope believe in research informed teaching and our research expertise encompasses three main areas: economic and social development; leadership, learning and organisational change; and international business and management. Liverpool Hope has a number fo research institutes, including the Liverpool Hope-Christine University Bangalore) Institute of Business, Management and Leadership. The Institute is foucused on collaborative research projects, particularly in the areas of SME management and leadership, cross-cultural influences on corporate social responsibility, professional leadership issues, and marketing. These will broaden the cultural research expertise of all involved and bring significant benefits to students within Liverpool Hope’s Business School.

This programme opens up a vast array of career opportunities, as you will develop a broad-ranging knowledge and skills base that can be applied to virtually any organisational setting, both in the public and private sectors, in the UK and overseas. Graduates from this programme may go on to become managers, consultants, or start up their own businesses. You may also opt for further study by progressing to a PhD.

English language requirement: The programme is taught in English. Students whose first language is not English are normally required to have an IELTS 6.5 (reading 6, writing 6), TOEFL paper based 560, TOEFL ibt 83 or other equivalent recognised English language qualification.
