Learning & Teaching in Higher Education (MA/PgCert)

The MA in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education programme is designed as a professional training for lecturers in Higher Education. The concept of professionalism lies at the heart of the programme and national accreditation for the Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education (the initial stage of the MA programme) by the Higher Education Academy was achieved in 2004.

Teaching is not merely a set of practical skills but complex interaction between knowledge, theories, values and emotions demanding substantial engagement by the learner. The programme, therefore, can be seen to follow in the tradition of John Dewey, who challenged Cartesian dualism, positing instead a philosophy that puts process at the centre of education, based on a view of human potential for growth and achieved through experience and reflection.
