"I gained my Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Computer Science from a university back in Nigeria. After some time I decided to do my masters in the same field of study and I wanted to study at an institution where I would receive hands-on experience that would help me in my future career.
"Coming to Liverpool Hope University to study computer science at Master’s level has been one of the best things I have done, even though it was tough to leave my family back in Nigeria. In the computing department I met people from different cultural backgrounds who were very helpful and immediately made me feel at home. From the students to the module leaders, there was always somebody to help you out and offer advice on issues affecting you in all areas. At Hope, it has always been said that, each student is known by their name to the tutors. This is as a result of the great relationship between the students and course tutors.
"The department boasts well-equipped computer rooms, an intelligent distributed laboratory, a PhD laboratory and even masters research rooms. The academic staff are very experienced in their areas of research and they are always willing to share the knowledge they have with the students. The courses are all well designed to meet individual student needs and prepare them for the challenges they would face in their future career.
"Modules such as research methods, embedded systems, human computer interaction, mobile computing, network etc. are new areas in computer science. I was introduced to these as an international student and they have opened a new fountain of knowledge for me.
"The dissertation is another challenging, yet interesting, area which truly brings out all a student has studied. One is assigned to a tutor that is well grounded in your chosen area of research to guide you through the assignment. I could go on about how good the department is but one thing is certain, and that is the Liverpool Hope computer science department is the best for me. I would highly recommend it to both International and Home students who are willing to work and be successful. I hope to do my PhD here sometime soon."
