The MA in Human Resource Management & Development is a 12 month programme that offers a career development opportunity to a wide variety of students – from recent graduates, who may not have human resource management and development background, to potential managers based in the UK or overseas.

The course provides you with a comprehensive understanding of the fundamental principles and techniques of managing and developing human resources in organisations. This programme enables you to develop competence, techniques and effectiveness in the field.

Human Resources Management and Development is crucial in meeting the challenges in international development, by adding value to economic activities, securing effective public services, and building capabilities within individuals, organisations and societies.

You will engage in a critical analysis of best practises and their application to globalisation and international development processes. The course examines the current international business environment and its diverse nature of social and economic challenges to the management and development of human resources.

Curriculum

You will study nine taught modules in Semesters one and two. You will also undertake a research methods module, which will lead to the production of a research proposal for your dissertation. The final piece of the course is the completion of a dissertation which is completed in Semester three. Each of these nine modules is worth 15 credits and the research dissertation is worth 45 credits. You must complete 180 credits to graduate with an MA degree. The programme is currently being offered only as a full-time entry.

Semester 1 and 2 - September to May:

· Organisational Behaviour and Leadership

· Management Strategy

· Enterprise and Entrepreneurship

· Global Economic Development

· Human Resource Development

· International Organisation

· Research Methods

Plus one of the following elective courses:

· Managerial Finance

· Global Business Ethics

· Knowledge Management and Development

· Operations Management

Semester 3 - May to September

· Research Dissertation

Entry Requirements

Normally a First Class or Upper Second Class Honours Degree in management, development studies, education, business, public administration or marketing or social science.

Applications from students who do not hold a 1st or 2:1 Honours Degree (or equivalent) will be asked to demonstrate potential to achieve a Masters award via a sample of academic writing and interview before an offer is made.

Students whose first language is not English there is a language requirement of IELTS 6.5 overall (reading 6, writing 6), TOEFL ibt 87, or other equivalent recognised English language qualification.
