Liverpool is a vibrant student city offering plenty of cultural, sporting, musical and social opportunities during your time at Liverpool Hope.
In 2008 Liverpool had a successful year as European Capital of Culture and Hope played a major role in the events programme, hosting events and getting involved in city-wide art exhibitions.
Visitors to Liverpool are constantly amazed by the rich tapestry of theatres, concert halls, museums, galleries, bars, cosmopolitan shops and restaurants, which the birthplace of The Beatles has to offer.
Sporting fans will enjoy the friendly rivalry between Liverpool FC and Everton FC, the world-famous Grand National which attracts thousands to Aintree Racecourse, the thrills of Rugby League and the golfing excitement of The Open Championship.
The historic waterfront has been a focal point of the city for over eight hundred years, so it seems appropriate that the Pier Head – including the world famous Liver Buildings – is a UNESCO-recognised World Heritage Site.
Being a student at Liverpool Hope offers you the chance to get involved the cultural aspects of the city. The University works closely with The Playhouse and Everyman theatres, The Tate and Bluecoat art galleries, The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Society, FACT, European Opera Centre and numerous smaller galleries and theatre companies - many of which are run by our former students.

We asked six current students for their five favourite spots in Liverpool. Here’s what they said:

Cece, Coventry: Cricket Clothing on Cavern Walks is probably my favourite fashion store. You can find classy dresses for literally any occasion there. When I go out, I like to go to the O2 Academy. It has a very nice atmosphere and the music is also very good. When I don’t want to listen to rock I go to Medication. They have five floors and offer room for any taste in music. If I want to relax, I prefer to go to The Docks since its a nice place to hang around or to play sports. And the view is amazing. When you’re looking for food you should probably go to Lark lane, near the Aigburth Campus. Lark Lane has some nice antique shops, restaurants, pubs and cafés and Sefton Park is just around the corner. It offers everything you need if you just don’t feel like going to the city. |

Danny, Liverpool: As a Liverpudlian I have to recommend the World Museum. It has a very nice selection of exhibition pieces of natural history, and the history of science in the city of Liverpool. They even have a small aquarium and it’s free. The Echo Arena is probably my favourite place for concerts and events. You have got a view from every spot in the arena and its architecture is just amazing. If I go shopping I usually head to Speke Retail Park. It is a lot more relaxed to go shopping there since the stores are pretty much like the stores in the city but they are a lot less crowded. When I go out I usually go to Scream and Garlands. Both bars are very distinctive from the other pubs in Liverpool. Scream is run by students for students, it’s good to meet new people, and it is also quite cheap. And Garlands has a great atmosphere, great music, and great people. |

Chloe, Manchester: I really like Liverpool One for its great shopping and its nice architecture. It’s just a great place to hang out. When I want to escape from the city I go to the Mersey Riverside or to Sefton Park. These places are really peaceful and great for relaxation. I like the Albert Dock for the Museums and the architecture as well as the nice little cafés nearby. That’s also a nice place to spend the afternoon in. My favourite club is probably Bamboo. It has a very nice interior and it’s just a good place to be. |

Lauren, Birmingham: One of my favourite spots in Liverpool is probably the Central Library. It combines a nice atmosphere with a tremendous selection of contemporary and historical literature. Another place with a great atmosphere is Liverpool Hope University. The architecture is very nice, the new cafeteria is quite extraordinary for a University Cafeteria and it has a very friendly vibe. If I want to relax, I usually go to Sefton Park, or to the woods near Aigburth Campus and if I want to have a drink I like to go to O’Neill’s Pub for its authentic interior. |

Justin, Holland, Michigan – United States:
The waterfront at the Albert Docks provides the ideal setting for cool shops, cafés and restaurants. There is one very arty place I like very much, this is the FACT Building, it is not only a theatre but also an unexpected combination of art and popular culture. The place for any musician to be is most likely Parr Street Studios. It is not only the coolest bar but also great for its history, since bands like Coldplay or The Smiths recorded their first albums there. If you want a place with a nice and relaxed atmosphere, go to Wavertree Library. It’s a nice place to stop and read if you’re taking a walk through the city center. A nice place that is very close to the Aigburth campus is Lark Lane. It offers coffee shops, pubs, and a park all available in one spot. |

Kyle, Oldham – Manchester: My favourite spot in Liverpool is definitely Anfield Stadium. It is the historical home of my favourite football club, Liverpool FC. If I want to go for a walk, I normally go to the Otterspool Promenade. It is also the best way to get to town on foot. I like the Albert Docks for their history and also for the inclusion of modern architecture into their structure. A nice and quiet place is Sefton Park. It is also a very nice place to hang out with your friends in summer. The Downtown Area is very nice for shopping. It is very vivid and new, and offers a great selection of international brands and clothes of any price range. |
