Hello all,
This week I’m going to be blogging twice hopefully. This one is to shout about the excellent careers people, and the other will be a Cornerstone fashion blog. Also, as you can see below, is a photo of the newly finished capstone theatre! You can see more on our facebook page.
So, to it. Last week I made an appointment to see the careers department

the lovely new capstone theatre!
in the Gateway building. This was mainly because I’m in my third year (as regular readers will know) and am pretty scared about what happens once I graduate. I’ve been looking at jobs, but wasn’t really sure where to start with a CV that wasn’t aimed at bar or shop work. Luckily for me though, I was pointed in the direction of the daily drop-in sessions that the careers department have in the afternoon on a weekday.
I made an appointment, and was seen a couple of days later at a time that was convenient for me. The meeting lasted about half an hour, but if I had needed longer, they would have sorted the out as well. I was shown to some handy resources, like mock CVs in different styles, which provided a really good template for my own. The staff were friendly, and didn’t make me feel silly for not knowing what to do, which was good!
I wrote my CV, and then went back for a follow-up appointment, where I was guided on what to change and make better, as well as given a huge list of websites and businesses that are involved in graduate employment. I know it sounds like I’m selling the Careers department, but honestly, they were so nice and helpful that I’d recommend a visit to anyone, even if you’re just looking for part time work – it’s how I got my job as a campus journalist!
