Research Excellence Framework 2014

Faculty of Science REF

Research activity and the culture of research-informed teaching is an essential ingredient to the values of the Faculty and all our degree programmes are research-informed, focused on employability and a student centred approach. Colleagues from across the Faculty’s four Departments contributed to the REF 2014 with 88% of the Faculty’s research outputs recognised as internationally excellent or internationally significant.  This is an external endorsement of the quality of our research strengths because in the Research Excellence Framework (REF: www.ref.ac.uk) the quality of research is independently assessed in this way every six years. I encourage you to please refer to the University’s webpage on REF. You will be pleased to learn that Liverpool Hope University was ranked 4th in the North-West for Research Intensity. This research distinction informs the design and delivery of our degree programmes which are very much a learning partnership between our tutors and students. Our student centred approach as a Faculty is reflected in the impressive year-on-year results in the National Student Survey (NSS). This means the tutors who will teach you in the classroom and small group tutorial sessions are experts in their discipline and truly among the best in the world, with their research informing their teaching to give you a world-leading education and personalised learning experience.

Research Centres

There is a broad and varied research culture within the Faculty, with research groups in, amongst other things, Health and Wellbeing, Landscapes, Computer Sciences and various aspects of Psychology.

Research in the Faculty is centred around a series of research centres, groups and networks.
