The IEEE Fifth International Conference on Bio-Inspired Computing:
Theories and Applications (BIC-TA 2010)

Bio-Inspired Computing: Theories and Applications (BIC-TA) is one of the flagship conferences on Bio-Computing bringing together the world's leading scientists from different branches of Natural Computing. Since 2006 the conferences have taken place at (2006), (2007), Adelaide (2008) and Beijing (2009). The Fifth International Conference on Bio-Inspired Computing: Theories and Applications (BIC-TA 2010) is being organised and co-hosted for the first time in the United Kingdom at Liverpool Hope University Liverpool, from September 8th to 10th, 2010. Simultaneously, the conference is being also co-located in China hosted at the University of Hunan, Changsha, from September 23rd to 26th, 2010. BIC-TA 2010 aims to provide a high-level international forum for researchers with different backgrounds working in the main areas of Natural Computing inspired by Biology to present their latest results and exchange ideas.

Social Pedagogy in the UK: Present challenges, Future prospects

Recent changes in the scope and character of childcare/ residential care in the UK have brought social pedagogy to the epicentre of the discussion. A rigorous academic debate followed the state funded pilot- project on social pedagogical practice in residential care. The reactions of the stakeholders vary from mystification and suspicion to enthusiasm and acceptance. Interestingly, in either side of the spectrum, practitioners, employers, legislators and service users appear to be everything but indifferent about the developments.
