I taught early modern / Renaissance literature at the University of Liverpool (2002-06) and late medieval literature at the University of Manchester (2006-07) prior to joining Liverpool Hope University in 2008. I was also a guest lecturer on Shakespeare at Edge Hill University (2006-07). I am a member of the Society for Renaissance Studies, of the New Chaucer Society, and of the Liverpool Chapter of the Dante Alighieri Society. I am also a member of the Boydell and Brewer Chaucer Studies series Editorial Board. My research interests are in late medieval and early modern poetry, with a particular emphasis on Anglo-Italian literary and cultural interrelationships. In addition to translation I am interested in manuscript studies. I would welcome PhD students with interests in Chaucer, the tre corone (Dante, Petrarca, Boccaccio), Sir Thomas Wyatt, and the fifteenth-century poet John Lydgate.
