I am Liverpool Hope University's Accompanist and Piano Tutor. I studied at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and, as a postgraduate student, at the Royal Northern College of Music. I trained principally as a piano accompanist. As an academic with an interest in learning and teaching I was involved in various national Higher Education projects such as the Peer learning in Music Project based at the University of Ulster and the CALMA Project at the University of Huddersfield. I have also worked on projects investigating the assessment of process within Higher Education performance courses. Research interests revolve around Pedagogical Action Research in music and the creative arts and, more generally, in the development of metalearning skills across all aspects of academic study. Working closely with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, I have co-ordinated Liverpool Hope students' contribution to the Society's life-changing Sistema England project, 'In Harmony, Liverpool'. Internationally, I have co-ordinated five Erasmus Intensive Programme courses working with partner music institutions in Belgium, Germany, Hungary and Sweden delivering ground-breaking music education courses. I was formerly a trustee of The MusicSpace Trust, a music therapy charity, and I was responsible for setting up a branch of the trust based in Liverpool.
