My first career was as a Head of Music Department and then Head of Expressive Arts Faculty at two large 11-18 Secondary Schools. I joined Liverpool Hope University in 2008 as a Lecturer in Music Education. I hold the qualifications GRSM, ARCM, PGCE, MA in Education Leadership and Management and in 2015 I completed an Educational Doctorate. My Doctoral research focused on subject knowledge for primary school teachers and how the university can train non-specialist teachers to teach music.
In 2018 I became Subject Lead for Music in the School of Performing and Creative Arts. However, I also remain committed to teacher education and continue to lead the PGCE Secondary Music teacher training course.
