Dr Joan Walton

Education Studies

My early professional career was in social work, prior to becoming a lecturer in further and higher education, and gaining a Masters degree in Race & Education in 1989. I then worked for several years as a consultant and in staff development within social care, health and education settings. In 1995, I created an independent education & research centre which offered accredited qualifications, staff development and consultancy in leadership, management and professional practice across a range of professional groups in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors. After completing my PhD in 2008, I joined Liverpool Hope University in order to focus on my interest in integrating research and practice, across disciplines and between professions, to improve the wellbeing of children and young people.

Research interests include: improving professional practice with children & young people; integration of research and practice; developing new conceptions of scholarship; leadership, management and teamwork.
