My research focuses on ancient Greek drama and epic in contemporary re-performance, interactions between the traditional arts and modern theatre-making, and contemporary storytelling practices. I am a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, an Associate of the Archive of Performances of Greek and Roman Drama (University of Oxford), and an External Associate of the George Ewart Evans Centre for Storytelling (University of South Wales).

Recent publications include 'Unfixing Epic: Homeric Orality and Contemporary Performance' (in Epic Performances, 2018), 'Greek Tragedy, Agonistic Space, and Contemporary Performance' (New Theatre Quarterly, 2018), 'It Happens in Ballads: Scotland, Utopia, and Traditional Song in The Strange Undoing of Prudencia Hart' (in Understanding Scotland Musically, 2018), and 'Staging a Transforming Great Britain: Tamlane, the Social Turn, and the 2014 Referendum' (in Re-Thinking Literary Identities, 2018). I am also co-author of Greek Tragedy and the Contemporary Actor (Palgrave Macmillan, 2018).

Alongside my academic research I work as a professional storyteller, creating new performances of old tales for and with audiences across the UK, and beyond. Drawing on this work, I lead the final-year Storytelling elective at Liverpool Hope University, and in 2016 founded 'The Juniper Tree', a groundbreaking student-led storytelling club in the heart of Liverpool. I also use storytelling to help other academics communicate their research.

To date, I have supervised several PhD projects focusing on actor-training, and contemporary performances/adaptations of ancient drama. I would be interested in discussing potential projects exploring classical receptions, oral/traditional practices in current performance-making, contemporary storytelling practices, or related topics.
