Before joining Liverpool Hope, I was Head of Drama in three Greater Manchester secondary schools. I began my career at the university as a member of the academic staff in the Department of Drama and Theatre Studies where I taught on undergraduate and postgraduate courses. In 2000 I joined the Faculty of Education where I designed and delivered PGCE Secondary courses in English with Drama, Citizenship and Performing Arts. I also developed the MA Performing Arts:Education degree in collaboration with Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts and have been course tutor, dissertation supervisor and examiner on the programme for the past five years. I have been external examiner and chief external examiner for undergraduate Drama programmes and am moderator for AQA AS/A2 Drama and Theatre Studies. I am currently Course Leader for PGCE Secondary Performing Arts and IPD tutor. Performing Arts, the only course of its kind in the country, is heavily oversubscribed and highly regarded by schools and trainees.

For the past two years I have secured funding from Renaissance Northwest to collaborate with regional museums,  galleries and archives to develop opportunities for learning outside the classroom.  The role of LOTC in the development of deep and transformative learning is the focus of my current research.
