Support for Students with Disabilities / Dyslexia

Staff from the Student Development and Wellbeing team are available to offer advice, guidance and support on all issues relating to
disability / dyslexia. For example, the students we support may experience:

• a Mental Health Difficulty, e.g. anxiety, depression                 altered_library_picture.jpg

• a Specific Learning Difficulty, e.g. dyslexia, dyspraxia, AD(H)D

• Asperger's syndrome

• a hidden disability, such as epilepsy, diabetes, heart condition

• a visual or hearing impairment

• mobility difficulties

We can meet with you to discuss your support needs at any stage before or during your programme of study. Where appropriate we can liaise
with other departments, such as Accommodation.

We will write, with your approval, a Learning Support Plan to ensure Hope staff are aware of your needs.

We can agree reasonable adjustments to exam arrangements (e.g.extra time or use of a computer).

If you are a UK student, we can guide you through the process for obtaining Disabled Students Allowances (DSA). This funding pays for support that you may need during your course because of a disability or specific learning difficulty. This could include the purchase of equipment, provision of support workers, additional travel expenses and other costs. DSA is a grant and does not have to be repaid.

We can assist in arranging agreed support, such as dyslexia study skills tutors, note-takers. If you are a registered student, and you are concerned that you may have dyslexia, we can arrange for an assessment with an educational psychologist. Please note that students are asked to contribute towards the cost.

Please make contact if you wish to discuss your support needs. We are based on the first floor of the Gateway building, Hope Park campus.
