Sciences Faculty
The Faculty of Sciences and Social Sciences is an ambitious and vibrant constituent of Liverpool Hope University. It is composed of six departments, each working independently but in overall synergy to develop a world-class portfolio of academic provision:
The Faculty is proud to have a record of tailored quality teaching across a broad range of disciplines, whilst still retaining an inclusive ‘small family’ approach. It challenges the learning of students at undergraduate or postgraduate level to achieve success and provides exceptional levels of student support throughout the study journey.
Research activity and the culture of research-informed teaching is an essential ingredient to the values of the Faculty. There are several research centres (which students are actively encouraged to get involved with) and academic staff are engaged in a range of research endeavours from publishing work to presenting at international events.
In addition, the Faculty supports and hosts special interest events, networks and conferences that complement its subject areas. It welcomes fresh thinking and strives to utilise its expertise in innovative ways.
On behalf of myself, Dr John Brinkman, and all colleagues in the Faculty of Sciences and Social Sciences I would like to extend a warm welcome to visitors of this website.
I am pleased you have chosen to find out more about the Faculty and your subject area of interest. I would also suggest you take some time to read about the breadth of activities within the Faculty available to you as a student that could complement your studies.
We appreciate that choosing a subject and a place to study is an important decision. We refresh our webpages with the latest information and publish as much detail as possible, but you will also find contact details and I encourage you to telephone, email or visit the Faculty to find out more. We welcome your enquiries and feedback and we firmly believe that the Faculty of Sciences and Social Sciences has opportunities to interest everyone.

The Faculty of Sciences and Social Sciences is actively developing strong links with some highly prestigious colleges in India with similar missions and overlapping subject interests. We are hoping to develop opportunities for both students and staff to work collaboratively with like-minded colleagues in India.
The Faculty’s Department of Social Work, Care and Justice has an active partnership with Liverpool Personal Services Society (PSS). PSS is the largest voluntary sector organisation on Merseyside. PSS provides student placements for the social work programme and placement opportunities for criminology and social policy students who choose to undertake a work-based course in their third year.
The Geography Department has developed links with a number of universities around the world, most notably the University of Bucharest in Romania and University of Malta.
