Overview

Hear from a tutor and student about studying Music at Liverpool Hope.

The Music Department is housed in Hope’s brand new city-centre performance centre, the Capstone building, which forms part of the University's Creative Campus and opens out onto landscaped gardens.

In addition to a 300-seater concert hall equipped with a Steinway model-D concert grand, the Capstone contains a dozen sound-proofed practice rooms, four electronic studios and other specialised teaching spaces.

Our music courses offer a distinctive blend of practical and academic studies. If you are interested in exploring a wide range of styles, genres and repertoires, you will find exciting musical opportunities at Liverpool Hope.

Music students at Hope are taught by staff recognised internationally for their research and expertise in composition, electroacoustic music, performance and musicology. The Music department is one of only a handful of all Steinway schools in the country.

Level 3

Entry Requirements

2013-14 Entry Requirements

The standard offer level is a minimum of 300 UCAS points, including a minimum of two A/A2 levels or equivalent.   In addition, applicants should normall have an A2 level (or equivalent) in a music related subject (not including Music Technology). Applicants with practical music qualifications will be considered. The ability to read and write music is required and applicants should be of at least ABRSM Grade V Theory standard. All applicants will normally be required to attend an audition and interview.

Employability

You will graduate from Liverpool Hope with a broad musical education having had the opportunity to specialise in particular areas. An increasing number of our students are choosing to continue their studies at Masters level at Liverpool Hope, and many also enter the teaching profession via our PGCE courses

However, our Music degree also develops a range of transferable skills, including critical analysis and communication so that, in recent years, several of our graduates have moved into the commercial and management sectors, often setting up their own businesses.

Many of our students also choose to mix a career in the music sector with private music teaching. The transferable skills you will gain having studied Music at Liverpool Hope will also equip you for a broad range of other careers in the public and private sectors.
