Once one of the most significant ports in the world, it is known across the globe as the home of The Beatles and a centre of football excellence. But there’s so much more. Liverpool’s recent role as European Capital of Culture was the catalyst for a new renaissance. After a 12 month celebration of the best in the arts, sport, music, heritage and culture, it is once again a modern, cosmopolitan, forward-thinking city. The city centre has been re-born with the ultra-modern Liverpool 1 shopping development now in place alongside some of the best architecture in the world. Liverpool has more Grade I and II listed buildings than any other British city after London while the famous Mersey waterfront has recently been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The Liverpool people are renowned for their sense of humour, warmth and love of a good time and the city reflects this with a vibrant night life, countless restaurants and shops and a busy entertainment calendar.
The city is also steeped in sport, with Premiership football, Open golf and the world famous Grand National steeplechase among the many attractions. For the newcomer, getting around is easy. The city centre is well-served by train and bus, the famous Mersey tunnels and ferries allow easy access to the Wirral and North Wales, while the M62 motorway shortens journeys to Manchester, the Lake District and beyond. For those travelling further afield, Liverpool John Lennon Airport boasts flights to over 60 domestic and European destinations. |

Liverpool
is a remarkable city with an extraordinary 800 year history. It was
perhaps best summed up by the eminent psychiatrist Carl Jung who called
Liverpool ‘The Pool of Life’.
The
city is justifiably famous for its art, theatre, music and comedy and
these great traditions are maintained at numerous venues like the new
Echo Arena, the Walker Art Gallery and the Everyman, Playhouse and
Empire theatres. Among the best of these are Tate Liverpool and the
Liverpool Philharmonic, each of which has strong links with Hope.
