Professor Kenneth Newport is active in Wesley Studies, particularly aspects of eighteenth-century Methodism and is able to offer supervision in these areas. He has a particular interest in the life, literature and legacy of Charles Wesley (1707-1788) and applications from persons wishing to undertake research degrees relating to Charles Wesley Studies are particularly welcome.
Liverpool Hope University benefits from being in close proximity to the Methodist Archives held at the John Rylands Library, University of Manchester, with whom Hope has an excellent working relationship. These archival deposits are without doubt the finest single collection of eighteenth-century Methodist related material in the world and Professor Newport has spent many years working with the collections. Funding OpportunityIt is sometimes possible for students wishing to pursue studies in aspects of early British Methodism to gain a bursary equivalent to full home fees. Bursary holders are typically those who area of research expertise means that they are willing and able to assist in some way with the Charles Wesley Letters Project, a two-volume edition of Charles Wesley's letters which is to be published by Oxford University Press.
