The Faculty of Arts and Humanities entered 90 (72%) academic staff into the research assessment exercise, with staff from all departments in the Faculty included in the REF.
Department of Music
Ranked 2nd in the North-West after Manchester, 99% of the research activity of this Unit is world-leading or of international quality. 100% of the Impact of this Unit’s research was rated as at least internationally excellent.
Department of English
Language and Literature: 32.3% of research output quality rated as world-leading, this Unit is ranked 4th in the North-West for Research Intensity.
Department of Theology, Philosophy and Religious Studies
100% of this Unit’s Impact is at internationally recognised level. 79.7% of this Unit’s research outputs were rated as at least internationally recognised with 9% of the research activity world-leading.
Department of History and Politics
Politics and International Studies: 58% of the research of the Department is internationally recognised or internationally excellent with 70% of the impact of their research graded as internationally recognised.
History (including Art History): 86% of the Department’s research activity is internationally excellent or internationally recognised. 50% of the Impact of the research activity of this unit is at internationally excellent level.
Department of Social Work, Care and Justice and the Department of Social Science (which includes Sociology and Criminology)
Ranked 12th in the UK for their research outputs at 3*/4* with 73.7% of the Unit’s research outputs rated as internationally excellent or world leading.
Department of Drama, Dance and Performing Arts
67% of the research of the Department is at least at internationally recognised level. 80% of their impact is rated internationally recognised.
