Professional Development

The School of Education supports teachers and leaders across all stages of their career development. We have a strong tradition of partnership with our schools and education partners ensuring we offer the right programmes and CPD events to meet the needs of the profession.

We work with individuals and organisations to offer a range of high quality professional learning and development opportunities.

Depending on the stage of your professional journey, we will have a course or CPD event to support your career development, enhancing your professional or academic profile.

Early Career Teachers

The School of Education at Liverpool Hope University offers all NQTs and RQTs the opportunity to engage in a support programme that will help you to update your knowledge, skills and ability in key areas that are essential in becoming an effective and competent teaching practitioner. Even if you have not secured a teaching position as yet, you will have access to a range of conferences, twilight sessions, online resources and tutor support. Please view our NQT / RQT page for further information.

Middle Leaders /Senior Leaders

Working with NPQ providers we have designed a Masters programme MA/MEd Leading in Education which recognises the value of the NPQML and NPQSL and allows those who have achieved the qualification to apply to be exempt from one 30 credit module of the programme.

Alternatively if you have a PGCE within the last 10 years you may be eligible to APCL (Accreditation of Prior Certificated Learning) these 60 credits against two modules of the programme.

Some blocks from the Masters can also be taken together as Postgraduate Certificates (60 Credits)

  • Postgraduate Certificate Research Informed Leadership

Headteachers

Working with NPQ providers we have designed a Masters programme MA/MEd Leading in Education which recognises the value of the work undertaken to complete the NPQH and allows those who have successfully completed the programme to apply the learning to the Education Leadership & Management block of the masters programme.

Some blocks from the Masters can also be taken together as Postgraduate Certificates (60 Credits)

Executive Headteachers

Working with the Business school we have created a bespoke MBA Educational Leadership which builds on the NPQEL programme and broadens the executive leaders knowledge of the business world to enhance their own professional expertise. This who have successfully completed the NPQEL can apply the learning to the first 60 credits of the MBA.

Masters in Leading for Advantage

We are currently working with groups of schools and alliances who work in areas of deprivation and disadvantage to improve outcomes for their pupils. We are currently running a new MA in Leading for Educational Advantage which has been co-designed with school leaders who are succeeding in challenging schools.

Mentors

We hold regular mentor development days organised via the ITE partnership team for all of our mentors. Additionally we are offering a PG Certificate in Advanced Mentoring and Coaching for those who wish to gain credits towards a full mastersThose not wishing to can follow the certificated route.   

Induction tutors

We run an annual conference to support those who are looking after the NQTs in their schools.

Special Educational Needs

We run a successful SENCO award programme which leads to a PG Cert National Award in SEN Coordination or can be part of a full Masters in Special Needs. We also offer a Postgraduate Certificate in Management and Leadership of SEN, for those without QTS. Additionally, our Postgraduate Certificate in Specific Learning Difficulties (Dyslexia) is accredited by the British Dyslexia Association and enables students to develop the specialist knowledge, skills and confidence to be a specialist teacher and/or assessor for dyslexia.

Subject and Pedagogic Professional Development

The LHU CPD Centre runs a series of programmes across the year to support a range of subject and other school priority areas, including Subject Knowledge Enhancement for secondary teachers.
