Professor Nick Donnelly - Inaugural Professorial Lecture

Wednesday, 3 April 2019 , Refreshments from 5pm, with the lecture beginning at 5.30pm.
Senate Room

Professor Nick Donnelly, Head of Psychology, Faculty of Science will deliver his Inaugural Professorial Lecture entitled ‘Applying visual perception research: linking theory and experimentation to issues in the real world’.

Speaking about the theme of the lecture, Professor Donnelly said: “The lecture explores some of the research in visual cognition that I, with various colleagues, have conducted over the last few years and explains why it has value beyond the laboratory. I will show how studies we have conducted in the laboratory provide insights into topics such as the search for threats in airport security screening to the spectatorship of paintings.”

Professor Donnelly took up his post as Head of the Department of Psychology in September 2018. He brings to the role a wealth of experience from his time working at other major UK universities. In particular, he spent ten years as head of the School of Psychology at the University of Southampton. He has worked in a multidisciplinary way throughout his career with colleagues from the humanities, medicine and engineering. He has also worked closely with colleagues from beyond the university sector, especially so in relation to using his work to improve personal safety.
