Study Skills Workshops

Each academic year the Study Skills Mentors run numerous workshops. The workshops are a chance for you to reflect, try new techniques and learn about useful tools to improve your study skills.  The interactive workshops will allow you to share your knowledge, develop your skills and be part of peer discussion and learning.

The places are on a first come first served basis and there are only 15 places available per workshop, so please book ASAP to get your place via the online store. The workshops will be repeated at key times during the year at both campuses. Please keep checking this page for more up to date information.

The following workshops are now open for bookings:

University systems workshops: Are you new to the University or had a gap in your Education? Have you logged into the University systems but not entirely confident when using them? Then come along to our workshop, the study skills mentor will be covering how to use Moodle, MyHope, Turnitin, Google docs and Google drive, where you can create your essays, PowerPoints, and share documents to use in group work.

Dates: Monday 8th January at 12pm - 1pm at Hope Park and Tuesday 9th January at 5pm - 6pm at Creative Campus

Critical reading and note-taking skills workshop: Critical note-taking skills are key to your time at University and can enhance your academic success. Effective note-taking ensures that you summarise the key information and retain key points from what you have heard, seen and understood. Not only will this help you engage and focus in classes but it will also help you retain information and aid exam revision. Have you looked at your reading list and panicked? Do you find it difficult to find the right book and are unsure how to find information in a book or journal? Come to this workshop to learn how to read efficiently and learn about effective strategies the mentors use.

Dates: Wednesday 10th January at 1pm - 2pm at Hope Park and Thursday 11th January at 5pm - 6pm at Creative Campus

University Time management: Do you procrastinate instead of writing your essay? Do you feel disorganised and stressed when you have an essay deadline and wish you had started your work earlier? Managing your workload is key to your time at University and the mentors can offer you tips and strategies that they use to ensure successful planning.

Dates: Thursday 11th January at 12pm - 1pm at Hope Park.
