The Sheppard-Worlock Library has the largest range of learning spaces in the University, offering every kind of study environment. The library has just under 180 PCs for student use, black and white and colour printing, photocopying and scanning facilities.

Booking System Guidance
Private study spaces, postgraduate rooms, the honours room, group study rooms and specialist rooms can be booked via MyHope up to a week in advance. Please check our opening hours before booking a study space. Students can book out these study spaces from their mobile or PC, while they are on or off the campus.
Please check in at the Library Help Point when you arrive and note that bookings will automatically cancel if you do not check-in after 20 minutes of the booking start time, as this releases the space for others to book. Cleaning materials are provided throughout the library, please clean the study space as you leave. Please check the booking system to see the information about the length of time you can book each space.
Food is currently not permitted in the library except in Chapters Cafe.
Students can find out which PCs are available within the library and across the campus by downloading the University app HopeUni. There are 60 PCs located on the SWL balcony and over 80 PCs located in the quiet areas and the rear areas of the library. SWL 122 and SWL 124 contain over 30 PCs in total and can be used on a drop-in basis when the rooms are not being used for teaching. Chapters Cafe is also located within the library and serves a selection of drinks, light lunches, snacks and cakes. The study zones are monitored by library staff and any issues, for example with noise in the silent room, students can text 07740 174044 for support.
Private Study Spaces
There are over 16 private study spaces that can be booked out for individual private study. The spaces are equipped with PC, desk space for reading or laptop use. There is also a range of software available on these PCs. More detailed information about each space can be found on the online booking system.
Group Study Spaces
Within the group study zone and the foyer area on the ground floor there are 4 bookable group study rooms. All group study rooms have the capacity to seat up to 8 people and have presentation facilities available (students will need to bring in their own laptops).
Honours Study Space
The honours study space is located on the ground floor and has 17 PCs available. A number of the PCs contain specialist software including SPSS, smartboard software and education packages. This room is only available to Honours Level students who will be given a code for entry upon showing their student card at the Library Help Point. This study space also has printing and photocopying facilities.
The postgraduate study space is located on the ground floor and is available to research and taught masters postgraduates and academic staff. The provision consists of group lab space with 4 PCs with desk spaces and there are also 4 individual study rooms. Two of these rooms can be booked for up to a month, for more information about this criteria please email email@example.com.
The CAT (Computer Assisted Technology) suite is located on the ground floor of the library near Special Collections and is available on the booking system. You will need your ID card to enter this space. The suite is equipped with PCs loaded with JAWS, Inspirations, Read & Write, ZoomText, Dragon and Kurzweil. There is also a CCTV available in this suite to enlarge text.
Private study space 004 on the ground floor rear end of the library is loaded with JAWS, Inspirations, Read & Write, ZoomText, Dragon and Kurzweil. There is a large screen monitor, scanner, and CCTV available in this room. Private study space 105 on the first floor rear-end of the library is loaded with Inspirations, ZoomText, Dragon, Read & Write and Kurzweil. These rooms are not available on the online booking system and must be booked at the Library Help Point.
Private study space 005 and 006 on the ground floor rear end of the library is loaded with Inspirations, Kurzweil and Read & Write. These rooms are available on the online booking system.
All PCs on the ground, first floor, and private study spaces are now loaded with Inspirations, SPSS, Sibelius and Read & Write software. 40 PCs on the first floor (rear) and SWL124 have now been loaded with Jamvoi and PsychoPy. The different types of software are clearly identified on each PC within these spaces.
- Study Carrel 006 and 007 are loaded with Microdiet software.
- Study Carrel 007 is loaded with Transcription software.
- Study Carrel 110, 112, and 113 are loaded with Arcgis software.
- Study Carrel 110 and 111 is loaded with Bibleworks software.
- All Study Carrels with PCs are loaded with SmartBoard Software.
CAT suite at Creative Campus
The CAT suite is located in the Capstone Building in room CAP210 and is loaded with JAWS, Inspirations, Read & Write, ZoomText, Dragon, and Kurzweil.
