Using the Library
Important information regarding library services during the Covid-19 pandemic
During Term time The Sheppard-Worlock Library is open for pre-booked study spaces and the collection of requested books only.
Study spaces must be booked online in advance via MyHope.
Please observe the rules and guidance around social distancing, hand hygiene and face coverings which should be worn at all times, unless exempt, including when seated at a study space. The Library is open for individual study only, there are no group study facilities available. In line with University guidance you are encouraged to have a Covid test before visiting the library.
Access to print books via Request & Collect
You can request copies of print books using the Request option on OneSearch. You will be emailed when they are ready to be collected. Your books will be wrapped in a bag and will be labelled with the first 3 letters of your surname and the last 4 digits of your ID number.
The Sheppard-Worlock Library: Requested books can be collected from the Library vestibule through the main library entrance. You will need your ID card to swipe in. You should sanitise your hands and wear a face covering (unless exempt) and you should only enter if there is no one else there. If there is please wait outside until they leave. Once you have collected your books please leave. Books can currently be collected Monday-Sunday 9am-5pm.
Creative Campus Libraries: From Monday 19th April staff will be retrieving books on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and books can be collected from the Security Lodge. You will need your Hope ID card on campus. If you prefer to collect your books from The Sheppard-Worlock Library, please indicate this via the pickup location menu when placing your request.
As the British Library is closed we are unable to order physical copies of books. However we can still order electronic copies of articles. For more information and to make a request please see Inter-Library Loans. We will update this section with new information from the British Library as it becomes available.
During a lockdown you are not required to return books and you should not travel to campus if it is not safe for you to do so. The due date of all loans is automatically extended (unless recalled) and any fines will be waived.
If you wish to return loans that you no longer need, please only do so if you can travel to campus safely e.g. in your own car and not via public transport.
All loaned books should be returned via the Out-of-Hours book return bin at the Sheppard-Worlock library, even when the library is open as we are following strict Covid-secure and quarantine procedures. If the gate onto that side of campus is closed, please drop your books off at the Security Lodge, building no. 17 (Main Lodge) on the Hope Park Campus map and library staff will collect them when they can.
The book return bin at the Creative Campus is located within the Student Success Zone, if you are unable to access this, please return your loans to the Security Lodge, building no.7 on the Creative Campus map.
For Aigburth residential students, there is a book return bin located in The Trinity Room at the Aigburth Park Campus.
Please note that loans will still appear on your library record until library staff are able to process the returned books.
Books can also be returned to the library by posting them to the address below. We know that there is a cost involved and it is worth weighing the books and checking the price with different couriers. We advise that you use a service which provides proof of posting as books can be expensive to replace. If you have lost a book, you can buy a replacement copy, in good condition only, and have it posted directly to the Library.
