Financial Wellbeing Advice

The UK is currently experiencing a cost of living increase and we understand the challenges our staff may be facing as a result of this. People across the country are having to adapt to a rise in the price of food, gas and electricity and many other items which are essential to our everyday lives.

This page brings together the support we are offering to staff during these difficult times.

  • As in previous years, we will continue to pay the Real Living Wage to staff on lower grades which, from 1st October, represents a 5% increase on their salaries.
  • Along with our free confidential service (see our Staff Counselling Leaflet for details) staff can also access free online support via Togetherall. This community based support network provides 24/7 access to peer to peer and professional support and has a range of online courses and tools to help staff self manage their personal wellbeing in a safe, anonymous environment

We recognise that now, more than ever, access to as much help and resources as possible is a priority for our, staff so we’ve provided signposting below to a variety of internal and external support:

    • An overview of the benefits and discounts available to staff can be found on the Employee Benefits webpage.
    • The Government’s “MoneyHelper” website provides free, impartial help that is quick and easy to use.
    • Martin Lewis’s website Money Saving Expert shares many ideas and tips for saving money and highlights many offers and discounts
    • Citizens Advice have a wealth of information on their website
    • Mercer UK, a global consultancy, have compiled some resources to help with financial matters. This generic guidance is not specifically for the HE sector but provides useful practical advice including a budget worksheet
    • The National Debtline has a cost of living hub to help you find out if you can pay less for our costs and find out about any extra help that may be available
