I Heart My Colleagues

I heart my colleagues - one line

What is the ‘I Heart my Colleagues’ Campaign?

A campaign focused on raising awareness and promoting good health, safety and wellbeing for all employees. The meaning behind the strapline is ‘I look out for my colleagues’.

Healthy and well -motivated employees can have a positive impact on the productivity and effectiveness of a business. It is also the duty of employers to ensure that workers have a safe working environment.

Health, Work and Wellbeing Statistics 14/15 (Great Britain):

  • 1.2 million working people suffering from a work-related illness

  • 2,538 mesothelioma deaths due to past asbestos exposures (2013)
  • 142 workers killed at work
  • 76,000 other injuries to employees reported under RIDDOR
  • 611,000 injuries occurred at work according to the Labour Force Survey
  • 27.3 million working days lost due to work-related illness and workplace injury
  • £14.3 billion estimated cost of injuries and ill health from current working conditions (2013/14)

In addition ‘Our People Strategy 2020’ sets out our intention to implement initiatives that encourage staff wellbeing as one of the actions required to support the University in achieving its strategic objectives.

What does the ‘I Heart my Colleagues’ Campaign involve?

Walk to Work Image only

Any initiatives and events related to raising awareness and promoting good health and safety and wellbeing for employees are now branded under the ‘I Heart my Colleagues’ strapline. An example of an initiative was promoting a national ‘Walk to Work Week’ campaign by Living Streets and encouraging employees to take part in a pedometer challenge from Monday 11th –Sunday 17th May 2015. Around ten teams across both support and academic departments took part in this challenge.  The overall winning team was the ‘Student Administration Striders’ who walked an impressive 537,364 steps. The team fed back that they all really enjoyed the challenge and that it was a fabulous team building exercise.
