Dr Mike Brocken’s ‘Other Voices’ re-issued in paperbackThursday 8 December 2016
Publisher Routledge has re-issued Dr Michael Brocken’s text Other Voices: Hidden Histories of Liverpool’s Popular Music Scenes, 1930s – 1970s in paperback.
The book by the Senior Lecturer in Popular Music Studies was originally released in 2010, and well received.
Times Higher Education described the book as an “important contribution to the study and understanding of popular music”.
Other Voices delves into the history of some of Liverpool’s lesser discussed musical strands that contributed to the city’s music scene. It moves away from the well-established Beatles culture to explore the dance bands, traditional jazz, folk music, and country and western genres that helped shape musical culture.
