Dr Owen Barden to represent Great Britain at World Duathlon ChampionshipsFriday 20 May 2016
Experienced Ironman and Marathon runner Dr Owen Barden has been selected to represent Great Britain at the ITU Powerman Long Distance Duathlon World Championships.
The Lecturer in Disability and Education will compete against other accomplished participants in his age category at the event in Zofingen, Switzerland in September.
Dr Barden said: “Zofingen is billed as the longest and toughest duathlon in the world, so I'll have my work cut out.”
The sporting challenge features a 10km run, followed by a 150km cycle and then a further 30km run. Having been founded in 1989, it is described as having a cult status and completing the race is a lifetime ambition for many duathletes.
In 2011, Joerie Vansteelant from Belgium set the official course record, completing the race in 6:07:151.
