Liverpool Hope University International Tennis Tournament gets underwayThursday 16 June 2016
The 2016 Liverpool Hope University International Tennis Tournament got underway by welcoming more than 300 children to the annual Kids Day.
The children, from schools around Merseyside, took part in tennis sessions and sports activities, a number of which were run by Liverpool Hope University alumni Little League Sports, before watching the tournament’s qualifying finals. This year there will be even more opportunity for children to be introduced to tennis with two more Kids Days throughout the tournament.
Thursday’s play includes matches between Wang Qiang (CHN) and Ellie Tsimilakis (GBR), Damir Dzumhur (BIH) and Adam Jones (GBR). The doubles match sees Ken Skupski (GBR) and Neal Skupski (GBR) versus Jan-Michael Gambrill (USA) and Peter McNamara (AUS). Melanie Stokke (NOR) will then take on Anastasia Detiuc (MDA).
Legends taking part in the tournament include Mansour Bahrami, Barry Cowan, Jan-Michael Gambvill and Xavier Malisse.
On Friday 17th June, to coincide with the tournament, Tennis legends Jeremy Bates and Peter McNamara, ATP player Wang Quang, and one of the UK’s most promising young tennis stars Macy Clarke are to help researchers at Liverpool Hope University launch the UK’s biggest study into whether playing tennis can help us age more healthily.
