Students from the Department of Social Work, Care and Justice are working with community groups to provide a festival of celebration for local residents.
Working in partnership with Central Youth Club, students currently based in Kensington and Fairfield hosted and arts and craft activities at a Summer Festival on Saturday 25th June.
Professional Tutor in Youth and Community Work Tracy Ramsey explained how the partnership came about. She said: “The department has developed a connection with the Kensington and Fairfield Ward over this academic year through Central Youth Club, and we are working with students on our professional development courses - Social Work (MA), and Youth and Community Work (MA) - to develop community based practice in our city.
Formerly known as Newisham Park Festival, the annual event is led by the Academy of St Francis of Assisi, and features activities, sports and arts for all the family.
The Department of Social Work, Care and Justice will also be contributing to the Liverpool Hope University sponsored Out of the Blue Festival.
Held at Everton Park, the festival is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, and thousands of people are expected to attend the event on Saturday 2nd July.
Students from the department have been working with the local community in Everton ahead of the festival to support the event.
