The MA Business & Management is a 12 month programme that offers a career development opportunity to a wide variety of students – from recent graduates, who may not have a business background, to potential or inexperienced managers based in the UK or overseas. The programme aims to link the academic study of business and management with the complex and uncertain business environment faced by today’s managers. In doing this you will develop a comprehensive understanding of a range of important business issues, and will develop a critical perspective of these areas, with the view to developing your business and managerial knowledge, skills and understanding. As part of an international cohort of students you will also gain experience of working in cross-cultural teams that will equip you for a management role in the global economy. The MA in Business and Management aims to provide a stimulating learning and teaching environment in which to support the continued academic development of students by developing their analytical, critical, practical and intellectual skills, thereby contributing to the improvement of business and management practice.
You will study nine taught modules in Semesters 1 and 2. You will also undertake a research methods module, which will lead to the production of a research proposal for your dissertation. The final piece of the course is the completion of a dissertation which is completed in Semester 3. Each of these nine modules are worth 15 credits and the research dissertation is worth 45 credits. You must complete 180 credits to graduate with an MA degree. The programme is currently being offered only as a full-time entry.
The programme will cover the following aspects of business and management:
Normally a First Class or Upper Second Class Honours Degree.
Applications from students who do not hold a 1st or 2:1 Honours Degree (or equivalent) may be asked to demonstrate potential to achieve a Masters award via a sample of academic writing and interview before an offer is made.
For students whose first language is not English there is a language requirement of IELTS 6.5 overall (reading 6, writing 6), TOEFL ibt 87, or other equivalent recognised English language qualification.
