ABOUT THE COURSE

The MSc in Sport Management offers you the opportunity to gain the necessary skills to take up employment opportunities in the expanding sports industry. Sport as an economic and social activity is growing in the UK and with that the demand for sport management professionals has increased.
This course offers you the opportunity to study business and management at an advanced level and apply these areas to the international sports industry. Issues that students will engage with include: sport market expansion, globalisation of sport, managing facilities and events, and sport policy-making in the government and non-government sectors. In addition you will gain key insights into how organisations operate more generally and how the business environment and strategic approaches impact upon them.
The course also promotes independent thinking: you will have the opportunity to carry out research and write a dissertation on a sport management topic of your choice. In addition, the opportunity to enhance skills in an applied setting will be offered through an industry placement.
This course is a synthesis of sport, business and management and explores a range of topics including:
Politics and globalisation
Administration and governance
Global sport industries and technologies
Sports media and communication
Ethics and the law
Sports leadership and social responsibility
Sport products and services
Working in sports industries
Normally a First Class or Upper Second Class Honours Degree in any relevant discipline.
Applications from students who do not hold a 1st or 2:1 Honours Degree (or equivalent) may be asked to demonstrate potential to achieve a Masters award via a sample of academic writing and interview before an offer is made.
International Entry Requirements

Teaching and Research
You will be taught in a range of settings including lectures, seminars and group workshops. The learning and teaching approach in this MSc seeks to enable you to become an independent learner. You will develop your ability to think critically and reflectively, to make judgements on philosophical and practical issues, and to critically reflect on the ideological, political and social context in which the sports industry operates.
You will be taught by a dynamic and experienced team of sport and business specialists with a range of research interests and applied experience. The student experience is at the forefront of our teaching approach as reflected in the consistently excellent National Student Survey results achieved by the sport programmes.
Employability is also a key concern on this course and you will have the opportunity to undertake an industry placement.

Indeed, the rapidly growing sport industry and field of sport management is extremely broad, with employment positions available in marketing, sales, and event management for instance, as well as in segments of the business, from professional sports to recreational facilities and non-profit organizations.
