I am a Barrister by profession. I began my career at the Bar in Liverpool in 1983, and, finally, retired from practice in 2006. I have an undergraduate degree in law from the University of Reading, a master's degree in European law and business from Liverpool John Moores University, and a post-graduate certificate in higher, further and adult education from Manchester Metropolitan University.

In 1998, I joined Manchester Metropolitan University as a senior lecturer teaching on the BVC and teaching Land Law on the University's undergraduate law programme. In 2004, I moved to Liverpool John Moores University and was module leader for, and taught, Land Law, Business Law, ADR and Succession on LJMU’s LL.B (Hons.) programme, I taught Equity and Trusts on the University's undergraduate law programme, I taught Land Law and Interviewing Skills on the University's post-graduate GDL programme, and, finally, I also held the post of programme leader for LJMU’s LL.M in Legal Practice and taught on its LL.M in Business Law programme. I took up the post of Senior Professional Tutor here at Liverpool Hope University in 2014.

My research interests include ADR (Alternative Dispute Resolution) and the Law of Succession. I am also a doctoral candidate at the University of Reading researching into the comparative treatment of carers.

I am a qualified mediator and was formerly the chair of the organising committee for the UK Law Schools Mediation Competition. I am still a member of that committee. I am also a consultant with a firm of solicitors in Cheshire and a trustee of the Liverpool YMCA. My hobbies include golf, contemporary music and Ancient Rome.
