I am the Founding Director of BIOCORE Research & Consultancy, an international company based in the UK that deals with various aspects of research and consultancy in the areas of healthcare Informatics, healthcare knowledge management, health information systems, biomedical computing, advanced biomedical image processing, predictive modelling of patient diagnoses and prognoses, AI modelling of patient management systems, and environmental (air/water pollution) health.

 

I work in conjunction with various INTERNATIONAL BODIES (e.g., the World Health Organisation, UN Regional Environmental Remediation Advisory Group, the British Council, UAE National Research Foundation, Qatar Foundation, etc), GOVERNMENTAL INSTITUTIONS (e.g., Vietnam Health Environment Agency, Vietnam National Institute of Occupational and Environmental Health, Philippine Environment Management Bureau, Philippine Council for Health Research and Development, etc), GOVERNMENTAL BODIES (Vietnam Ministries of Health and Construction, Philippine Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Philippine Commission on Higher Education, Saudi Presidency of Meteorology and Environment, Kwara State (Nigeria) Ministry of Women’s Affairs, Lagos State (Nigeria) Ministry of Health, Karnataka State (India) Pollution Control Board,  Bangalore (India) Directorate of Economics and Statistics, etc.), NGOs (e.g., Clean Air Asia, Lagos State AIDS Control Agency, etc), as well as a multitude of UNIVERSITIES and RESEARCH INSTITUTIONS around the world.

 

I have acted as an expert reviewer for the European Commission, Fulbright Commission, United States Information Agency (USIA), Canadian Foundation for Innovation (CFI), Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC), and Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC).

 

I have published one book on Digital Signal Processing and Filtering and edited another on Artificial Neural Networks in Cancer Diagnosis, Prognosis and Patient Management. In addition, I published over 300 research articles in peer-reviewed journals and international conferences, as well as many book chapters. I acted as Conference Chair and member of Technical and/or International Programme Committees for several international conferences, and have been invited to deliver keynote lectures and organise workshops at a number of such forums.

 

For my research on AI in breast cancer, I was the recipient of the Fulbright Cancer Fellowship Award. For my Doctorate (PhD), which I earned from Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine, University of London, in 1986, I received the Overseas Research Studentship Award from the UK Committee of Vice Chancellors and Principals, and the prestigious Sir Edward Stern Studentship Award from the University of London. I hold a BSc from Cairo University and an MSc (with Distinction) and DIC from Imperial College. Prior to my academic appointment as Visiting Professor at Liverpool Hope, I was Professor of Biomedical Computing at Coventry University and, earlier, I was with the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. I am also a Visiting Professor at Carleton University, Canada, and a Distinguished Honorary Professor at De La Salle University, the Philippines.

 

In addition to my supervisory and research remits at Liverpool Hope, I am the Transnational Education (TNE) Lead for the Dual Masters Programme between De La Salle University, in the Philippines, and Liverpool Hope, an initiative that was instigated by the Philippine Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and the British Council in 2016.
