Paul Rooney, Assistant Head of the Department of Geography and Environmental Science, has been re-elected as the Convenor of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) North West England Geographical Section.
Paul founded a ‘Shadow’ North West England Section in 2002, and established it as a formal section in 2004. The Section provides opportunities for members of the institute to network, share knowledge and learn more about the science and practice of the ecology and environmental management profession.
It also plays a role in promoting professional standards, feeding into consultations and representing the views of members in the region at a local and national level. As Convenor, Paul leads and coordinates these activities for the benefit of the institute’s members.
Paul said: “I’m committed to ensuring our Geographic Section advances members' professional standing, showcases the ecological and environmental good practice taking place in the region, and ensures that the members in the region are represented in CIEEM nationally and in relevant professional consultations.
“As a development I want to enhance our service to early careers members and support those entering the profession. The BSc Environmental Science and MSc Ecology and Environmental Science at Liverpool Hope University are both professionally accredited by CIEEM, so I’m acutely aware that academic courses must shape the science understanding and professional practice of students.”
