Funding for a three-year clinical trial has been awarded to Professor Omid Khaiyat for a research study into iron deficiency anaemia.

In collaboration with Visiting Professor Dr Christopher Wong, Professor Khaiyat submitted an application for external funding and has successfully been awarded £208,000.

The funding will support a clinical trial investigating the effects of iron therapy modalities on musculoskeletal function in older adults, who have been diagnosed with iron deficiency anaemia.

Commenting on the successful bid, Professor Khaiyat said: “This is a great achievement for the School of Health Sciences, after nearly two years of continuous and hard work.”

Vifor Pharma is a leader in iron deficiency therapy, and can trace its history back to 1872 when pharmacist Caspar Friedrich Hausmann opened a pharmacy in St Gallen, Switzerland.
