Generous staff and students from across the Liverpool Hope community donated 235 sets of pyjamas to a charity run by mother and daughter alumni team Karen and Ash Downing.

Founded by Karen and a friend in 2013, Pyjama Party Liverpool collects new sets of sleepwear for children in Liverpool who are in need.

Talking about the aims of the charity, Karen said: “We are able to help not only children who are homeless on Christmas Day, but also children who are living in really vulnerable situations.

“Children who may not otherwise get to wear new pyjamas on Christmas Eve, offering them a little bit of kindness and comfort during a difficult period in their lives.

“Pyjamas seem like such a small thing, but it’s an unwritten law in Liverpool to have a new pair for Christmas Eve and we don’t want the kids to miss out, just because things are tough.”

Donations were made by staff and students at both the Creative Campus and Hope Park, with the Domestic Services Team donating more than 20 sets of pyjamas alone.

The appeal needs over 5,500 sets of pyjamas to fulfil the requests from the organisations they support.

Karen and Ash Downing both studied at Liverpool Hope University, with Karen graduating in 2006 after studying Psychology, while Ash graduated in 2012.
