Hope heads to Chicago for QI2018

For the second year running, delegation from the Faculty of Education be presenting at the International Congress of Qualitative Inquiry (ICQI), a 55-nation annual conference led by Professor Norman Denzin at the University of Illinois.

This year’s delegation, whose theme is Pathologies of Professionalism, includes Dr Joseph Maslen, Dr Cathal O’Siochru, Sophia Deterala and Nicki Blundell (School of Social Sciences).

In their papers, the pathological/professional will be discussed in relation to metricisation, doctoral supervision and research-informed teaching, and the team will also performatively present a courtroom drama, putting ‘the professional’ on trial and giving the audience the casting vote.

The visit is part of Hope’s ongoing Memorandum of Understanding with the University of Illinois, which involves a forthcoming special issue in the ICQI's journal International Review of Qualitative Research.
