Nigerian government officials have developed their leadership skills thanks to a continuing professional development programme delivered by Liverpool Hope University.
Senior figures from states across Nigeria visited the University for Leading with Purpose, a transformative three-day course focused on enhancing leadership capabilities for sustainable organisations.
The Faculty of Business, Law & Criminology designed and delivered a tailored academic programme for 17 delegates, who attended face-to-face seminars, participated in interactive workshops and heard keynote addresses from the University’s industry partners.
The course, which concluded with a certificate presentation, covered various topics, including leading diverse organisations, how leaders can support wellbeing, and leading in challenging times.
Dr Olusiji G Aina, a development economist and a faculty fellow at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), said: “NIPSS is the main organisation driving this engagement with Liverpool Hope.
“We are interested in connecting with the University to see how it can enhance the capacity of some of our people who hold strategic positions in Nigeria.
“The course has been very intentional, deliberate and well-coordinated by the academics leading it. Every session has been interesting, interwoven and engaging throughout.
“It has helped me develop a broader perspective of leadership and, for those of us who have worked in the private sector but are transitioning to the public sector, it has been quite incredible.”
Dr Craig Marsh, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Business, Law & Criminology, added: “This course builds on our commitment to supporting the learning and career objectives of regional, national and international employers.
“Our bespoke programme was designed to empower senior leaders with the tools and strategies for fostering resilient and sustainable organisations in a rapidly evolving world.
“By focusing on inclusive leadership, wellbeing, and worker engagement, we hope to have equipped delegates with the knowledge and skills to create a positive and lasting impact in their organisations.”
