Primary school children from across Liverpool are showcasing their artistic talents at an exhibition hosted by Liverpool Hope University.

The Liverpool Hope University Primary School Art Exhibition is an annual event hosted by the School of Education and features as impressive collection of work from talented young artists at our partner schools.

The exhibition, which is on display in the Eden Building at the Hope Park campus until Friday 26 May, includes submissions from pupils at Fairfield Primary, Broadgreen Primary, Wavertree CE Primary, Childwall CE Primary, St Francis de Sales Catholic Infant, Evelyn Street Primary Academy, and Monksdown Primary, as well as trainee teachers from Hope’s undergraduate and PGCE programmes.

Gill Taylor, the University’s Artist in Residence, has worked with the pupils leading up to the exhibition, exploring a variety of creative themes and the work of several notable artists.

Seventy pupils from five of the schools involved were invited to visit the exhibition, where they had the opportunity to take part in an art workshop with first and second year trainee teachers.

“This year’s primary art exhibition celebrates some of the fantastic, creative artwork that has been happening at both the University and a number of our partner schools,” said Alison Patterson, Senior Professional Tutor in Teacher Education.

“Children from reception to year 6 explored themes such as Parietal Cave Art, Japanese Art and Our Beautiful World, learning about artists such as Georgia O'Keefe, Louise Nevison and Jon Dyer.

“They were able to build skills in drawing, mosaics, acrylic paints, clay, mixed-media and also reflect on important environmental themes in their assemblage pieces.

“Visiting the University to see their work on display gives children, and our trainees, a huge boost, as well as providing inspiration for teachers.”
